Worldwide peace and unity is a bad,bad thing!

I decided that It was time again to read the bible through, because I haven't read it through since my teens. And in my opinion if your going to be an atheist you really need to have a good knowledge of the religions and gods you are disbelieving,to truly understand why you choose not to believe.

So I'm reading through genesis and come to the tower of babble section. Now I know this story from my childhood, but never really understood what was really going on and how seriously screwed up this particular myth really is.

Basically mankind speaks one language everyone can communicate no problem, nothing lost in translation. So they decide one day, that man should come together and build a great tower, one so great that it reaches the heavens. It will be an amazing accomplishment that will unite all of mankind,a place where humans can come and see that we as a people can accomplish great things when there is peace and we work together. The text states nothing about discrimination based on color, gender, beliefs or anything, just humans united to accomplish a task far greater than any ONE person could. It's a beautiful concept and one that this world should strive,NEEDS to strive for if we as the inhabitance of this world plan to ever survive extinction.

Now god finds out about this and thinks Oh my,Oh my this will never do.Everyone speaks one language, they all seem to get along, they are united as one and because of this they can accomplish anything they put their minds to.Now I'm injecting my own theory here but I'm pretty sure the underlying point is that HUMANS WOULD NO LONGER NEED GOD!!

So what does this egomaniacal tyrant do?He goes down and makes everyone speak a different language! Not only destroying any chance of the people ever finishing the greatest feat humankind has ever conceived up to this point, but effectively separating and alienating people from one another for all time. And because of this separation people segregate themselves to their own kind, and because the peoples of this world are now segregated they naturally develop their own customs traditions and way of understanding things.and in short because of the inevitable lack of understanding in other cultures or thinking that their way is right and others wrong,
we have wars, genocide and an entire planet that barely gets along.

Now as I've stated this is just a myth, but this myth is part of a belief system that
millions of people follow. One that supposedly teaches love and peace tolerance, but how that can that be when the god they worship is clearly afraid of these things.Because if humankind were to truly achieve worldwide love, peace and tolerance, god would then be rendered obsolete, there would be no more need for him.

Can we as species really continue to follow any belief system that at it's very core promotes the separation, segregation and alienation and hate of each other because it's god is afraid that we won't need him anymore? As an atheist I do not believe that any god exists and all of the holy texts are nothing more than mythology with a bit of history thrown in to give it that flavor of credibility.
But if you do believe and follow such gods, can you really get behind and mold your lives around such an obviously backwards, vengeful, childish, insecure god who ultimately wants to keep humankind from ever achieving it's goal of unity and world peace? Can you?...Really?

Hate religion not faith

I've come to a bit of a realization as of late and I may have stated this before but here it is again just so I'm clear.People who I interact with and who have the misfortune(chuckle)of reading my blog may get the idea that I hate people of faith. That couldn't be further from the truth,I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with personal faith in anything as long as doesn't impinge on anyone else's rights or freedoms. You can believe that your dog is the divine being and his poop is part of the Blessed Sacrament...as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else!BUT!...and it's a really big BUT! That is where religion,Christianity and Islam specifically step in with their size 55 shoes and start breaking toes,so lets get down to the facts.
Religion is a business plain and simple, the biggest and most successful business in the world,in history in fact and their product is a "happy" afterlife. And all you have to do to purchase this product is to first off decide to buy their pitch(god="happy" afterlife)follow their product rules and regulations(the holy book=Bible,Quran etc)and make regular easy payments of 10 percent or more of your income to the various stores and outlets(churches)of your favorite business for the rest of your life.
Now religion being a business with a product to sell, they have to have consumers right? With out consumers to sell the product to their would be no business right?
So what to do,what to do?how to guarantee that people will continue to buy our product even though it is useless and outdated?
Well first we come up with a negative impact for not buying our product(HELL).One so horrible that regardless of how unnecessary our product really is,it will scare people into buying it anyway. It's kind of like Nike saying if you don't buy our shoes, not only will you lose the race, but you'll break both legs,be crippled and in excruciating pain for the rest of your life.
Next we sell to the kids because they are young, impressionable
and easy to sell to.We also make sure the parents understand that the same horrible things that will happen to them for not buying the product will happen to their children as well, that way they can scare the kids into buying our product which in turn means less work for us.
Finally seeing as we cannot legally go to war and start killing people anymore for not buying our product like in the good ol days.We try to inject our consumers into government so they can pass off our product as actual law! That way it will actually be illegal to NOT buy our product. We will make it seem as if not buying our product makes you a horrible, amoral social pariah and even possibly a traitor to your country that was founded on the principals of our product.
And THAT is why I DESPISE religion, because the very foundation of religion demands the propagation of it's belief system or it can not survive."Believe as I do or you will be damned for all eternity".you can add all the fluff and sugar coating you want to it,dip it in chocolate if you like,at it's core it's still a chocolate covered turd.
Religion insists that it be at the core of every decision you make and the decisions of everyone else as well even if those decisions impinge on the rights of others. It even goes as far as to imply that you are an evil sinful creature incapable of making intelligent moral choices without it.
Religion is a business that is quickly losing it's place in the market and it is scared. So scared that it will resort to whatever cheap tactics it can to keep it's death grip on a society that is coming to realize it doesn't need or want the product anymore.

Just a quick obsevation

Now I usually take the time to read up and be current on my favorite atheist blogs and in particular I'm a fan of Pat Condell. While reading these blogs and watching videos and what not I always read comments to see how people are going to react to things and it never fails that one or two christians show up and start with the repent or else bullshit. Now I know that regardless of their less than intelligent beliefs there are quite a few very smart christians out there. So why oh why does it seem that the only ones that ever reply are semi literate ones with the "Fuc u u atiest peece of shit!
i cunt wate till u DIE! an than who lafing now mutterfucher hope u bern n HELL!!!"

SERIOUSLY? your trying to tell us how we are ignorant and delusional, and how stupid we are for not accepting the loving embrace of "god" and you cant even form a sentence or use spell check.Your also gleefully drooling at the prospect of us burning in hell?
Way to represent your faith! So please if the intelligent christians ARE out there please keep your hateful uneducated monkeys from speaking because they're really not doing you any favors.

Amen Josh Becker!!

Found this today and I simply couldn't agree more
http://www.beckerfilms.com/religion.htm

Religion, of any denomination, sect or ilk, is the basis of nearly all that's evil on our lovely planet. Religion is not here to make anything better, it's only purpose to divide and separate us. We're the chosen people, you're not. Our God is the real God, yours is false and profane. Although we must show love and compassion for other members of our own religion, those of any other can be killed, tortured, and maimed because they're infidels. Religion, at its very heart, means I'm right and you're wrong, or you're right and I'm wrong, but someone's always got to be wrong.
I say that religion is the pretext for evil on our planet. Religion is the method whereby humans can rationalize their awful behavior to other humans and pawn it off as good deeds.

The basis of all Judeo-Christian religions, which includes Islam, is the old testament bible, which states very clearly "Thou Shalt Not Kill." Although I didn't know it at the time, nor is it even my title, the name of my first film is really much more appropriate: "Thou Shalt Not Kill . . . Except." As George Carlin so aptly put it, except "if you believe in another invisible man than I do." In which case the root and basis of all these religions, the ten commandments, can be happily and easily be tossed out.
Evil does not run around in a red devil suit with horns. Evil runs around as fundamentalists of every kind, Christian, Jew, Muslim or Hindu. I'll leave out the Buddhists and the Quakers because I don't think they have ever bothered anybody. But they certainly aren't joining in with the rest of us, either. Religion is about separation, me and you, them and us, it has nothing to do with living with the rest of humanity in peace. Therefore, religion is the basis of evil.
Catholic priests have been seducing and raping young boys for over a hundred years, but are adamantly against homosexuality. Muslims say they believe in the ten commandments and that Abraham, Isaac, and Moses were all holy men, but all Muslims believe in the jihad and that anyone who is not a Muslim ought to be, and eventually will be, killed. Fundamentalist Christians, who also purport to believe in the ten commandments, really believe that when the apocalypse comes and Jesus returns, all the Jews will either have to convert to Christianity or will be killed, and that's perfectly okay. Of course, Jesus will be in the nearest synagogue praying to Yahweh while this mass murder is going on. And the Jews and Hindus all believe that they are the real chosen people and everyone is just screwed anyway.
This is all moronic, simple-minded, idiotic, pre-civilized, childish thinking. Any name that we knuckleheaded humans can give to this incredible animating power that we call God, be it Jehovah, Jesus, Krishna, Allah, Buddha, or Zoroaster, are all ridiculous bullshit.
As Joseph Campbell, the great historian of mythology, so clearly pointed out, anyone that takes any of these old books of mythology literally has completely missed the point. The bibles old and new, the Koran, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Book of Zoroaster, and all the rest of the "holy" books are merely collections of mythology. They are metaphors and parables about how to live your life and how to face death. They are highly imperfect users manuals on how to get through this veil of tears we call life. If you actually believe that Jehovah is an old (white) man with a long beard who is watching each and every one of us over six billion humans and judging us, you're an imbecile. If you literally believe that Jesus is Jehovah's son, you've decided to turn off a big portion of your brain and not deal with reality. If you literally believe that if you kill an infidel that Allah will bless you with seventy-two virgins in the land of milk and honey, you've definitely got a screw loose. These are all myths. Period.
Yes, there probably were guys named Jesus, Mohamed, and Buddha, but they were humans just like the rest of us. The fact that a lot of other desperate, unquestioning people gathered to them doesn't make them anything other than plain old humans.

Religion is all based on weakness and laziness. It's the throwing in of the towel on the mysteries of life. It's saying, I can't make head or tail out of any of this shit, so I'll just go with what everyone is doing. If they're all getting down on their knees, eating a cookie and believing it's the body of Christ, then I will too. If they're all wrapping themselves in leather thongs, covering their heads with beanies, and rocking back and forth, that's what I'll do. If everybody else is bowing to Mecca six times a day, I guess that's what I must do, too. This is the behavior of lemmings following other lemmings off the edge of the cliff. There is absolutely no difference between praying to Jesus, praying to Jehovah, bowing to Mecca, or lighting incense to Krishna, than there is sieg heiling to Hitler, blindly following Pol Pot into the killing fields, or chopping up Tutsis with machetes. It's all called thoughtless behavior.
It's part of our job as humans to think about and consider our place here on the planet and our position amongst all these other people. The second you abnegate this responsibility, you've fallen into an evil trap. As the writer Harlan Ellison has said, "We're all the same person under different skins," and that's truly a holy thought. All the religions on Earth want to point out is that we are all different, and we of our religion are better than those other unholy blasphemers. That's evil. And that is what all religion at its core is all about. Us and them. We're holy, they're infidels.
A word religions seem to really like, particularly the Jews is "tradition," which is the handing down of beliefs or customs from one generation to the next. This is another form of acceptance without questioning. For several hundred years an American tradition was, "The only good Indian is a dead Indian." A good old Australian tradition was "the Abo-hunt," where they tracked down and shot the Aboriginal people for amusement. A good old European tradition was the pogrom, where, if your luck had turned sour, go kill some Jews. The Russians loved this tradition, but the French and Germans thought it was a pretty swell tradition, too. And it's always been a tradition of the Serbs to hate the Croats, the Hutus to hate the Tutsis, whites to hate blacks, Christians to hate Jews, Jews to hate the Palestinians, Hindus to hate the Muslims, and Muslims to hate everybody.
Well, let's just thank God for tradition, sing songs in its praise and dance the Hora.
Karl Marx said that "Religion is the opiate of the masses," and he couldn't have been more correct. Religion is a drug that encourages you to not think for yourself, and, in my very humble opinion, is much worse and far more deadly than heroin, pot, cocaine, and alcohol all put together. None of these other drugs breeds contempt for other people, but all religions do in one way or another. Religion is the insidious evil of our planet, and the sooner people start to wake up to that the sooner we can get on to bigger, more important issues like peace and goodwill toward others.

Ray and Kirk will slip on their own Banana peel.

Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron...what can be said about these two douche bags that hasn't been said already.Well I do have a question for everyone who feels they need to debate with these idiots. Why bother?Do you really think your going to in any way make them change their mind? Or maybe make them look even more idiotic than they already do to themselves? For sanities sake please stop!!All you're doing is feeding the flames of their insanity, making them more sanctimonious and self righteous than they already are and putting more money in their pocket.
That's right in case this wasn't painfully obvious it's all about the money.I highly doubt Ray and Kirk drink their own Kool-Aid,(most evangelists don't) but if there was a way to get them in a public forum with no way to get out of the truth that god doesn't exist, they would still deny it,Why?Because if they openly admitted that they don't eat the crap they serve to people then there goes the millions of dollars in revenue they make for hijacking people into heaven.Oh think of it then, they would have to get real jobs...Ray would most likely be asking "would you like fries with that?" and Kirk...Well Kirk I'm pretty sure would turn to gay porn.
So please for your own sanity stop debating these fucktards because I guarantee they will alienate a lot more people with their own stupidity than you will trying to prove them wrong.

Spreading the good word...REALLY FUCKING THIN!!

I'm sure this sentiment is expressed on many different atheist sites but it's one that really sticks in my craw so I'll bring it up here as well.On the subject of god,I don't have a problem with god per say even though if he truly existed he would be one of the most egomaniacal, reprehensible, uncaring, bipolar and just plain evil entities mankind has ever conceived. So lets just forget that part and say that the problem I have with God and religion are its single minded, simplistic, delusional, petty little followers.
Why if god is so omnipotent does he require his followers who are subject to misinterpretation and ultimately injecting their own personal agenda into his "message" to tell me how he thinks I should live my life?If there was a god and he needed to tell me something, then fucking do it yourself god!
I don't need your little zombie peons running around trying to save me because they don't want me to spend an eternity in burning in some hell. They say that the road to hell is paved with good intentions right, well then by all rights there are a lot Christians on the short road to hell.
So in short if you are "blessed by the holy spirit and so filled with the love of god" that you feel you just have to share it with me...dont!

Turn the other cheek?

Well I'll start this thing off with a serious question. Why do a large number Christians who are supposed to be the epitome of love, kindness and caring and other religious folk get sooo damn defensive when ever their "faith" is questioned?and by defensive I mean downright nasty and borderline violent. So for example,I just finished watching "The fourth kind" with my significant other of 14 years who while usually a very sweet, loving nurturing women is also a blatantly ignorant Christian. Now I find the whole ancient astronaut theory fascinating and devour anything on the subject matter that I can get my hands on and this movie kind of brought that subject up.My other didn't get what they were talking about so I briefly explained that all sorts of statues, carvings, murals and other things that seem to depict flying craft, figures in space suits and oxygen masks and what we would describe as an alien have been found.I then went on to exlpain about Erich von Däniken and his theory about ancient aliens visiting early man and maybe even responsible for the Creation of mankind itself. To this she got instantly angry and said "God created us not aliens!"Being VERY wary of giving her my opposing view point on the subject because I know it's touchy with her I replied well it's just a theory, and why is that so impractical when you believe that a magic all powerful being just blinked everything into existence? To me believing in god is the same as believing in Santa Claus the Easter Bunny and faeries. To this she stated that I really did believe in god because I had as child and teenager, that Satan had a hold on me and she was afraid for me because I was going to burn in hell...Yada yada yada getting more and more upset. It was at that point I decided stop right there and drop it because a full blown argument with her just wasn't worth it and for a reason I can't conceive right now I started grinning at her...Well that pissed her right of and she threatened to "smack me right across the fucking mouth if I didn't get that grin off my face"I asked her why she was getting so mad for,we were just having a discussion and then turned to watch TV.
Now this is from a women I love and that loves me,I've received far worse from others and some atheists I know have received threats of physical violence and expressions of "I can't wait till Jesus returns and you burn in the pits of hell for eternity...From Christians who are supposed to love unconditionally and for what? Making the choice to not believe the unbelievable, for requiring that fantastic claims require fantastic proof? I'm sorry but if your beliefs can't stand up to questioning and examination,if you are unable to intelligently discuss your beliefs with out resorting to anger or violence then those beliefs aren't doing you a hell of a lot of good are they.
